‘Ginny and Georgia’ season 3 breaks Netflix records, but fans demand justice for Maxine

That cliffhanger, though ...

Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia season 3 took the streaming world by storm, shattering records previously held by another hit teen drama. Within the first four days, Ginny & Georgia amassed astonishing numbers, overtaking Outer Banks to claim the crown for the biggest English-language Netflix series third-season debut.

What is “Ginny & Georgia”?

Launched in February 2021, Ginny & Georgia is a dramedy set in the cozy town of Wellsbury, Massachusetts. It follows teenager Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and her charismatic but complicated mother, Georgia (Brianne Howey). The show explores their new start in the suburbs while unpacking Georgia’s mysterious, criminal past and Ginny’s struggles with identity, race, and growing up.

Season 3 premiere smashes “Outer Banks” record

According to What’s On Netflix, the new season averaged nearly 4.4 CVE million per day over its first four days, outpacing Outer Banks’s previous record for a third-season launch. Strong retention shows fans are doubling back to previous seasons, and the series is now Netflix’s reigning champion of cliffhanger drama.

“CVE” refers to “Completed Viewing Equivalents,” or a metric Netflix uses internally to standardize viewership across different episode lengths. This is a common way Netflix reports viewership now, rather than just “viewers,” which can be ambiguous. It’s important to note this isn’t necessarily 17.6 million unique people who watched all of it, but rather a measure of total hours watched equivalent to that many full viewings. Still .. we’re impressed.

Major Season 3 moments: Georgia in court, major betrayals, a pregnancy bombshell

Attracting viewers, season 3 amps up the stakes: Georgia stands trial for the murder of Tom Fuller. In a shocking twist, her children, Ginny and Austin, conspire to protect their mother. Meanwhile, there’s emotional fallout as one character enters rehab, a marriage dissolves, and oh … don’t forget the political scandal. And just wait for the cliffhanger.

What went wrong with Max?

Amid all the chaos, secondary character Maxine “Max” Baker (Sara Waisglass) has arguably endured the most emotional damage. Once bubbly and theatrical, Max spirals this season, pushed to the fringes by fractured friendships and burdened by her twin brother Marcus’s problems.

Viewers are saying, “I feel so bad for her … being left out of everything … I actually cried for Maxine.” Others commented that they treated Max like dirt, and she didn’t deserve that.
Calls are growing for justice, not just Georgia’s redemption, but respect and closure for Max.

With its record-breaking debut and emotionally charged twists, Ginny & Georgia season 3 has left fans buzzing—but many are asking: What about Max? Will Season 4 repair her broken bonds, and how will Georgia’s possible pregnancy escalate tensions? One thing’s clear: in Wellsbury, the real justice may start with Maxine.
